Kantamanto
Market
The Kantamanto Market in Ghana’s capital, Accra, is West Africa’s hub for used apparel from the West. Here, investors rapidly type via piles of garments every day so as to grasp the exceptional bargain. But often, there are greater rags than riches. “We did not get any correct apparel at all,” a dealer instructed DW after this sort of hurried routine. Recently, the deliveries from the West have an increasing number of been centered on so-referred to as rapid-style gadgets. These garments are typically put on after only some weeks. To a few investors, it is in reality an imposition to sift via them. “The items which can be coming now are sincerely affecting our business,” some other dealer said, stressing that such cheap gadgets can not be resold withinside the neighborhood market.
- While a maximum of those secondhand garments is normally donated with excellent intentions from industrialized countries, many have now emerged as an environmental risk in Ghana and beyond.
